Here are some important dates to remember for the month of December:
* Diplomas will be mailed to graduates on January 11.
* G et ready for final exams. Winter break is coming up Dec. 18 - Jan. 4.
Christmas is almost here. Here is a list of fun facts to set the spirit:
* Most people think that the Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year, but according to chiff.com, the Saturday before Christmas is even more hectic. Get your shopping done early to avoid those jam-packed stores.
* If all the gifts were given in the song "The 12 Days of Christmas," 364 presents would be given out. All those gifts would make a very generous Christmas.
* A Christmas tree will consume as much as a quart of water per day during its first week at a new home.
* T homas Edison and Edward Johnson invented electric strands of light by 1882. Albert Sadacca in 1917 created the idea of selling strands of lights for Christmas trees.
* C oca-Cola was the first beverage company to use Santa Claus to promote its product in the winter.
Flu season is here. Here are some educational facts to keep people aware, courtesy of the Center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov:
* T he peak months of flu season are December, January and February.
* F requently washing your hands will reduce your risk of coming down with the flu.
* A void contact with sick people. If around people with the flu, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
* Between 5-20 percent of all people get the flu.
