Twelve days of Christmas brings bonuses
Briana DiMascio, In Motion Staff Writer
During the holidays, spending time with the family is important. Sometimes, though, a lot of family time can be too much. The 12 Days of Christmas are from Dec. 25 - Jan. 5, according to newsadvent.org.
If you need something to do during the holidays, here is a list of activities to keep you busy during the 12 days of Christmas. They are based off of the Christmas song.
On the first day of Christmas, go down to blockbuster and rent The Partridge Family Story. During the movie, treat yourself to some chocolate glazed pears - a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Find the recipe online at www.allrecipes.com.
On the second day of Christmas, go to a store that sells Christmas ornaments. They should be on sale because it is after Christmas. Buy two turtle dove ornaments. A turtle dove represents true love, so give each turtle dove to someone you love.
On the third day of Christmas, give three French hens. Years ago the giving of a French hen meant the giving of a continual source of food. Go to three local homeless shelters and donate food.
On the fourth day of Christmas, think calling birds, literally. Think of four old friends you haven't talked to in a while and give each one a call to catch up.
On the fifth day of Christmas, go through your jewelry box and find five old pieces of jewelry to donate to Goodwill. If you're a guy and don't have a jewelry box, ask a female relative to help out on this one.
On the sixth day of Christmas, bring some bread down to a local park that has a pond. Even though there might not be geese, feed the birds.
On the seventh day of Christmas, "swans a-swimming" is what the song says. Find an indoor pool if it is cold outside and go for a swim. Swimming is good cardio exercise.
Eight maids a-milking is what the eighth day of Christmas is about. Centuries ago, maids a-milking represented parties and celebrations. Call some friends to get together to celebrate.
On the ninth day of Christmas, the theme is ladies dancing. Go out dancing. If you don't know how to dance, take this day to learn.
On the tenth day of Christmas, entertainment is the focus. Lords a-leaping refers to a form of entertainment used between courses at feasts in the sixteen century. Go see a movie to entertain yourself.
The eleventh day of Christmas brings music. Pipers piping are people who play music on bag pipes to entertain. Take a radio or an iPod and go for a walk listening to your favorite songs.
The twelfth day of Christmas is the
final day. Drumming can sometimes represent
big announcements. Think of twelve
things to accomplish in the New Year and
write them down. Hang them in a place
to see every day and announce that these
things will get accomplished.
