EXHIBITS

SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY -

The SMP offers interactive and rotating exhibits in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Museum hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays and weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. 386-506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible. Information is also available at www.smponline.org.

Running through Feb. 12, 2010 in the downstairs gallery, will be "Recent Acquisitions," an exhibition of new artists who have contributed to the museum. Upstairs, "Journal" by Annabel Clark, closes Dec. 16. Clark is the daughter of British actress Lynn Redgrave and the display chronicles her mother's battle with breast cancer.

OPERATION COMMUNITY CAPTURE - 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Photography Building (Bldg. 530) on the Daytona State campus. A daylong event for families considered to be in need, as well as those from the Salvation Army's Rehabilitation Center. Student photographers will offer studio portraits to families as a holiday present. Sponsors are seeking participants, as well as donations of time, food, drinks, items for the playroom, or even money to help cover the costs of providing prints to the families in their Christmas baskets. GOOD EATS

FALCON SNACK SHOP - There are two campus locations, the coffee and snack bars can be found in the Allied Health Bldg. 320 and adjacent to the Academic Support Center, Bldg. 500. They are open 7:30 a.m. -2 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, closing at 1 p.m. Fridays. The Building 320 location is also open 4:30-7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays. Serving baked goods, fresh fruit, Starbucks coffee and more.

CAFÉ 101 -Now serving Sunday brunch, Cafe 101 is part of the International Hospitality Institute's Culinary Division, under the direction of Associate Professor and Assistant Chair Chef Jeff Conklin and Associate Professor Chef Clarence Pan. The teaching cafe and kitchen had reopened in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. RSVP for 11:30 a.m. or noon for lunch. Dinner is now being served starting at 5:30 p.m. Fridays. For $9 (including tax), lunch patrons receive an appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage. Vegetarian meals are available by request. Gratuities are welcome and help fund student scholarships. Payment is by cash only at Café 101. The cost for dinner is $12. Brunch is $18. No take-out service is available at this time. Café 101 is open to the public. CHRISTOPHER BEAN - Fresh-baked goodies and coffee by Volusia's own Christopher Bean is now served from morning to early afternoon in the foyer of the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200.

THE ARTS

YULETIDE FEASTE - Dec. 8-10 in the Goddard Theater (Bldg. 230). Daytona Campus. Join the Lords and Ladies of the Royal Court for an evening of feasting, singing and merriment as we celebrate the Christmas season. The singing, dancing and dialogue are accompanied by the Halifax Consort early music ensemble and the Daytona State College Brass Choir while patrons dine on a sumptuous feast. Always a sellout- get your tickets early! $35.

DANCE RECITAL - Dec. 10, 2 p.m. DSC students perform modern dance, ballet and jazz style. Dance Theatre will perform their "works in progress" with the final presentation to be in the annual spring concert, Dancescapes. Free to students, all others $8 per person or $15 for two. HOLIDAY CONCERT - Dec. 11, 7:30 p.m. at Flagler/Palm Coast Campus. The tradition continues in "Our Gift to the Community." Join the Symphonic Band and Concert Choir for an evening full of your holiday favorites and surprises too numerous to list. Oh, and be sure to bring the kids for our annual visit from the jolliest of elves from the North Pole. Free. Flagler/Palm Coast Campus, Alan Smolen Theater, 3000 Palm Coast Parkway SE, Palm Coast.

POP ENSEMBLE - Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m. This performance ends a semester-long course in the contemporary performance aspects of modern rock, pop, blues and country music. On the program will be selections of a particular style chosen by the class and will stage the concert to emulate a modern touring show production. Free to students, all others $8 per person or $15 for two. News-Journal Center at Daytona State College, Gillespy Theater, 221 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach.

WOODWIND CHAMBER ENSEMBLE - Dec. 14, 7:30 p.m. The College's Flute Choir and Saxophone Quartet join forces for an evening of chamber music in the holiday mood. The ensembles, directed by Tereasa Payne and Simon Hutchings, will entertain with repertoire standards as well as Christmas favorites. Free to students, all others $8 per person or $15 for two. News-Journal Center at Daytona State College, Davidson Theater.

School ID is required. Students can come the night of the event and if there are tickets available they will get one free of charge.

To order by phone or for information, call 386-506-3042 during box office hours, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. There is no service fee to use major credit cards, but there is a $10 minimum on phone orders.

Tickets also are available one hour before every event at the venue where it is being held, either the News-Journal Center or the Theater Center (Bldg. 220) or Goddard Center (Bldg. 230) on the College's Daytona campus.

CALLING ALL WRITERS/EDITORS - In Motion, the campus newspaper, seeks students interested in writing sports, arts and entertainment, news or features, as well as artists, copy editors, photographers and cartoonists. DELTA EPSILON CHI - The business club for students invites everyone to its 1 p.m. Wednesday meetings at the Daytona Campus, Bldg. 130, Rm. 154. The office is in Bldg. 130, Rm. 107. HISTORY IN MAKING - The History Club sponsors trips, has lively discussions and hosts monthly movies. Students should contact Len Lempel at ext. 3497. Meetings are 4 p.m. Wednesdays in Building 330, room 227.

PTK MEMBERSHIP - To join Phi Theta Kappa, the campus honor society, come by Bldg. 130, Rm. 106 and fill out an application. 3.25 GPA required. SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION - Academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses. It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content. This program targets high-risk courses rather than high-risk students. High-risk courses are traditionally difficult due to their content. Courses targeted for this program: MAC 1105 College Algebra, BSC 1085 Hum Ant & Phys I, MCB 1010 Microbiology, CHM 1025 Intro to Chemistry, BSC 1005 Survey Biology.
