Last month at the Gillespy Theater in the New-Journal Center, the Daytona State College Arts Department put on five acts of David Ives' hilarious off Broadway show "All In The Timing."

As the name implies, the five acts (there were 12 in the original) were each set up with synchronized, specific timing and staging. Despite the complexity of the set-up, a talented cast directed by new theater arts professor Geoffrey Kershner made it look easy.

Comprised of three various sized turning clock wheels and a projection of a ticking clock on the floor, the main set was beautiful. Sets were changed between each act, although the big clocks remained the centerpiece.

The biggest laugh of the show came from Nicole Smith in "The Philadelphia," who was portraying an uncompassionate waitress. Her line - "You think that's bad, I've been stuck in a Daytona Beach all week. It's like death, without the advantages" - had the entire audience laughing.

The best entrance came from Aaron Green, who he entered screaming offstage in a ripped shirt with tire marks across it. That also has the crowd cracking up.

Spencer Meeks shined in "Words, Words, Words" as the nicotine addicted Milton, whose vocal range and prop use was fantastic. He was all over the stage, jumping on the student desk prop so often the audience thought for sure he would fall.

Alec Luby and Paige Poteet shared great chemistry while speaking gibberish in "The Universal Language." And Scott Webb and Emily Gilardi were wonderful, making a smooth transition from the comedy of Russian revolutionary Trotsky walking around with a mountain climbers ax smashed in his head, to the final emotional realization by his wife that he was about to die.

Cast members Emily Gilardi and Kenny Daniels praise new director Kershner for his first production at DSC. Daniels saying, "He's so amazing to work with. I really admire his creativity." And Gilardi adding, "He really let us develop our own characters."

All in all, the show was fantastic from the costumes, make up and set designs down to the audio and lighting. Can't wait for the next one.
