Local venues offer hidden gems

Are you bored with the same old routine? Eating at the same old restaurant? Going to the same old movie theatre? There are unique ways to spend your afternoons or evenings.
For instance you can visit the Metropolitan Opera, at the Ocean Walk Movies located in the Ocean Walk Shops at 250 North Atlantic Avenue Daytona Beach.
Forget about going to see the latest release! Shown for one day only on Saturday May 9th 2009 "La Cenerentola" will be played in high definition. The old movie theatre just won't be the same. After viewing Gioacchino Rossini's Italian comic opera the newest Fast and the Furious movie just won't seem to cut it.
For those who don't know what a comic opera is. The event will keep you lightly entertained with its humor and come to an end with a good old happy ending. So enjoy this once in a life time event, unless your able to visit the Metropolitan Opera in person.
If the light humor at the Opera just isn't your style. Then try some hard knocks at the local comedy clubs. Bonkerz located right in Daytona Beach is a good place to start. La Playa Resorts at 2500 North Atlantic Avenue is proud to host the Bonkerz Comedy Club.
For two nights a week the Penthouse Lounge opens the doors so the community can enjoy a good laugh, on Friday and Saturday nights. The only catch is the crowd must be 18 years old and up. Sorry to the younger crowd, but you're just going to have to wait for your turn.
If Bonkerz is too far out of your way, then try Mark's Sports Pub 2045 South US1 South Daytona. Mark's and Budweiser is proud to present the Budweiser Comedy and Music Showcase. Every other weekend, Mark Slonicki the owner brings in professional comedians from out of town to make his customer happy and bring some new ones in.
Just like Bonkerz though, this event is privileged to only the 21 years old and up. Mark's Sports pub is just that, a bar. Even some of the humor that is viewed during the Showcase is for adult ears only.
Next show is May 9 staring Chris Gorges. Chris Gorges is the Host of the radio show "The Comedy Zone Live" on Tan Talk 1340 am . Gorges is also the Director of the longest running improvisation troupe in Tampa Florida called "The Charming Hooligans." Gorges has also opened for comedians such as Dave Chappelle and Pauly Shore.
If comedians don't work for you. The Hawaiian Inn at 2301 South Atlantic Ave Daytona Beach has a Luau Dinner Show. Teauila's Hawaiian Dinner Show Theater runs about one hour and fifth-teen minutes and that doesn't count the dinner. It includes a stage tour of the Polynesian Islands. Costumes, Songs, and dancers all come together to show the audience the traditional dances.
If the performances throughout the whole night doesn't put the audience on the edge then the fire knife dace will! From the island of Samoa the dancers bring the traditional fire dance using flaming steel blades.
Before the Show even gets started the audience is stunned by the dinner menu. Fresh Garden Salad, Tropical Fruit Salad, Island Seafood chowder, Polynesian Pepper Steak, Kalua Roast Port, Lemon pepper Baked Chicken, Mahi Mahi in Coconut, Island Style Fried Rice, and Ginger Stir Fry Vegetables. If that doesn't get your mouth watering then try the Candied Yams.
Teauila's Hawaiian Dinner Show operates twelve months a year but not every night of the week. For more information about upcoming shows or to place reservations contact the Hawaiian Inn.
