Dancescapes

Kevin Veiga and his spring semester dance students have long awaited for the moment where all their hard work would shine through in the annual event titled "Dancescapes."
This semester was an exceptional case, when his students twirled their toes in April for the first time at the Davidson Theater of the Daytona Beach News-Journal Center. Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the event were Daytona State College students and staff, as well as members of the surrounding community.
"The dancers represent the college and I would love to see more participation. Most in attendance were students of my classes with little to no expectations," said Veiga. "With two nights per week rehearsal, the girls realize they have made a huge commitment. Most of the dancers have been working on this since last September and at times rehearsing at all hours to adjust to the new venue."
Emotion spoke louder than words during the concert of contemporary dance, as the dozen dancers staged a parade of colors, movement and music with substantial success.
"The music, dancers and performance was spectacular," said Tina Browne, who attended alongside her husband. "The experience was awesome and for our first time ever to see one of the shows, we were thoroughly impressed."
Veiga considers each performance to be a constant work in progress, though focused on maintaining a continuously improving and professional appearance. The troupe also has performed in a number of other venues this semester, including the Ocean Center and Bethune-Cookman College. Another performance was at Manatee Island in late April to commemorate the Relay for Life.
Veiga is grateful not only for their talent, but the company's extraordinary effort. "The dancers have been busy and the commitment, eagerness and dedication have made me proudest."
