Once a year, all types of artistic students gather at Daytona State College gather for a Poetry Slam in celebration of the Ole Magazine release party which will debut on Friday April 24 from 5 to 7 pm.

"This year it will take place in the cafeteria, where we will serve refreshments, have live music, and discuss art" stated Daniela Martine quite simply who is the host and editor for the 2009 edition.

Creative minds gather annually to express artistic ideas and speak freely about theories. In doing so, students allow poetry to come to life, dancing in an eight count rhythm in their minds and tumbling off their lips. Faculty members and students alike encourage aspiring artists to become involved in submissions for the magazine in order to gain publication status. All in attendance of the Poetry Slam will obtain copies of the newly released edition, inspiration and perhaps even a caffeine buzz.

"There were approximately 20 to 30 people that showed up last year and I was shocked. It actually turned out really good. We even had a guy playing his guitar which gave it a nice touch" Martine added "The judges listened and selected winners who were awarded nice prizes such as a gift card to Barnes and Noble, and this year the judges will do basically the same thing."

With the launch of last years magazine being a massive hit, Ole staff holds closely hope that this years attendance, participation, and collaboration will be even greater. Sarah Gerace who is the graphics editor mentioned "We at Ole are looking forward to some good times. We hope to generate numerous diverse people and give them the opportunity to speak out." With the date of the party approaching, Gerace emphasized "This is an open invitation to a public release party where everyone is welcome to join."
