Some students have a hard time keeping up with their course loads, never mind campus events and college news. Richard Thripp keeps up with everything, and takes notes. His blog Daytona State College News chronicles different noteworthy college dealings. The blog has been operating since June 2008 and has covered many topics that are of interest to DSC students including construction development and the DSC Board's stance on climate change.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the blog is that Thripp shares his personal experiences and opinions. Thripp's dedication to investigating college news is often practical, even posting confusing Financial Aid letters in an entry where he navigates the confusing maze of college financial jargon. Thripp connects his studies to the blog by posting practice tests and reviews for his University Physics 1 class. Creating the reviews is a study method Thripp uses, and he extends the effort as a study aid for classmates.

Thripp's investment in the college is more than academic. He bought the domain name before the college could when DSC was Daytona Beach College and the name change was still in the works. When Thripp graduates, the school can buy the blog address from him if they want it.
