In Motion staff state champs...again!
From Staff Reports

In Motion, the student newspaper at Daytona State College, swept the 49th annual Florida Community College Press Association newspaper competition, winning 11 first-place awards in the contest's Division
A categories, including the coveted General Excellence Award.
For its outstanding work, In Motion once again took this year's General Excellence plaque, making it the top student publication in Division A, which includes colleges with student enrollment of less than 6,500 FTE. The first place winner of Division B was Pensacola Junior College's The Corsair. Points are calculated by the number of entries that win first, second and third-place awards.
The awards banquet marked the fourth time in five years that In Motion took top place. In 2004, In Motion lost its superior status by a single point.
Some 150 students and advisers, representing 15 state community colleges, attended the two-day event. Next year, the golden anniversary conference will be hosted by Central Florida Community College in Ocala.
In addition to In Motion's big win, DSC's literary magazine, Ole garnered eight awards, including four first places.
Judges for both contests included working professionals, published authors, a documentary filmmaker and Al Diaz of the Miami Herald, who assembled a professional panel of photographers to look over students' work. Judging for the magazines, among others, was by author Lester Goran, who started the creative writing program at the University of Miami and whose work includes a memoir of his association with Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer. Bruce Cook and Elena Jarvis are co-advisers of In Motion.
