New year means new season

With another school year upon us, Daytona State athletics hope for another successful season on and off the field of competition. The 2007-2008 campaign saw an impressive 20 Falcons athletes receive scholarship offers to continue their careers as student-athletes. More impressively, 37 DSC athletes made the FCCAA Academic All-State team with 12 of those named NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
Before we take a look at what's in store for 2008-2009, let's take a look at some of the other accomplishments of last year's programs:
+ Men's Baseball: FCCAA Male Academic Team of the Year; NJCAA Baseball Academic Team of the Year; 11 players committed to Division-I universities; pitched one of only three no-hitters in FJCAA last season.
+ Women's Golf: FCCAA Female Academic Team of the Year; 7 of 8 players All-Americans; finished 2nd in National Championship.
DSC should again be very successful among other state community colleges academically and should rebound athletically as well this season. The men's basketball program hopes to rebound from a dismal season with nine freshmen on the roster while the women's program starts fresh with Cal Cochran at head coach. As usual, the golf program will be among the nation's elite and both the baseball and softball programs look strong with a mixture of returning players and talented recruits.
While the golf program started its fall season on Sept. 21, the anticipated basketball season begins Oct. 31 with a double-header at the Lemerand Center. The women's team tips-off at 4 p.m with the men's team following shortly after.
Make sure you come out this season and support this year's Falcon's programs. A number of highly successful players have come out of this school and the next wave is here right now!
