EXHIBITS
SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY - The SMP offers new and exciting interactive and rotating exhibits in its new facility in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. The museum's spring season continues with four stunning exhibitions.In the Upstairs Galleries will be "Persian Visions: Contemporary photography from Iran" and "Witness To Infinity: Photography of Jim Vecchi," both through April 25. Running through May 23, will be "Zona," by Carl De Keyzer, a pictorial of 35 Stalin-era, Siberian labor camps. Also on view is "Image and Identity," photo works produced by students as part of a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Museum hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11-7 p.m. Wednesdays and weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. (386) 506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible. Museum Seminar Series II - April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m. "Photography and Art: Influences and Interactions in the Modern Era" features seminars by art historian Dr. James Murphy. Cover the development and evolution of photography as an art form, social influence, communication tool and technology from its origins in the early 19th century to the present. Offered as two in a series, with each composed of six linked sessions of an hour each. This series is presented without charge, however pre-registration is required. All talks wheelchair accessible.
Lunchtime Gallery Talks - April 3, 10, 17 & 24 12:30 - 1 p.m. Focusing on aspects of the current exhibitions, these introductory talks are led by museum staff. Meet at the reception desk in the museum's lobby just prior to the talk.
Film and Video Program - April 9, 7 p.m. "Earth," directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin (USSR, 1930).
Museum Lecture - April 16, 7 p.m. "Witness to Infinity," with Jim Vecchi.
SMP Children's Program: Silhouettes and Shadows - April 19, 11 a.m-12:30 p.m. Free parent-child activity designed for children aged 8-11. Experiment with color, shadows and light to create dramatic profiles and silhouettes. Bookings are essential. Don't forget to RSVP no later than one week prior to each children's program date.
SMP Gallery Talks - April 19, 2 p.m. Focusing on highlights of the museum's extensive Permanent Collection, these introductory talks are led by museum staff.
SMP Children's Program: No Need for Cameras - April 23, 5-5:45 p.m. Children can enjoy a presentation and tour with museum staff that will bring our current photography exhibitions to life. Presented in cooperation with the Volusia County ECHO Rangers program. RSVP no later than one week prior to program.
Film and Video Program - April 23, 7 p.m. "Stalker," directed by Andrei Tarkovsky (USSR, 1979).

RIBBON CUTTING - April 11, 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to celebrate the opening of the Florida State University School of Medicine Regional Campus and the partnerships that made it possible. AWARDS CONVOCATION - April 16, 11 a.m. The Anual Awards Convocation honoring outstanding students and faculty members will be held at the Datyona Campus in the L. Gale Lemerand Center. All classes at the Daytona Beach Campus will be dismissed from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Classes at other campus locations will be dismissed from 10 a.m. until 12:45 a.m.
GOOD EATS
FALCON SNACK SHOP - The snack bar can be found adjacent to the Academic Support Center, Bldg. 500. Serving breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m., with baked goods, fresh fruit, Starbuck's coffee and more on the menu. From 9:50-12:30 p.m., soups, salads, hot sandwiches, pizzas and smoothies are available for purchase.CAFÉ 101 - Café 101 is part of the International Hospitality Institute's Culinary Division, under the direction of Associate Professor and Assistant Chair Chef Jeff Conklin and Associate Professor Chef Clarence Pan. The teaching cafe and kitchen have reopened in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. RSVP for 11:30 a.m. or noon for lunch. Dinner is now being served starting at 5:30 p.m. Fridays.
For $9 (including tax), lunch patrons receive an appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage. Vegetarian meals are available by request. Gratuities are welcome and help fund student scholarships. Payment is by cash only at Café 101. The cost for dinner is $12. No take-out service is available at this time. Café 101 is open to the public. CHRISTOPHER BEAN - Fresh-baked goodies and coffee by Volusia's own Christopher Bean are now served from morning to early afternoon in the foyer of the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200.
THE ARTS
DANCESCAPES '08 - April 4, 11:45 a.m. DBC Dance Theatre presents contemporary works choreographed by Artistic Director Kevin Veiga, as well as works by other faculty and guest artists. STUDENTS RECITAL - April 15, 3 p.m. Showcase of DBC music students in solo and chamber ensembles performances, featuring vocal and instrumental music students. Free. Daytona Beach Theater Center.
AFTERNOON DELIGHT - April 20, 3 p.m. DBC Concert Choir and Civic Orchestra join forces with the Bel Canto Singers in an afternoon of great choral/orchestral music featuring works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Anton Bruckner. Admission $5. News-Journal Center, downtown Daytona Beach.
CHORAL FESTIVAL - April 21- 26, times TBA. Florida Vocal Association High School Choral Festival. High School Choruses from around the state will convene at DBC for performances and assessment in the annual state festival. Limited seating. Admission free. DBC Daytona Beach Campus, multiple venues.
'RATS' OPENING - April 24, 11 a.m. Annual student art exhibition features works from mediums including painting, design, sculpture, print making, drawing and ceramics. Light refreshments. Free. Exhibit runs through May 5.

SYMPHONIC BAND - May 1, 7:30 p.m. Plays contemporary works for woodwinds, featuring music of composer Robert Shelton. In the Theater Center, Admission $5.
TICKET INFORMATION - Box office in the Theater Center, Bldg. 220. Open one hour before show time and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays or call 506-3042 for an appointment.. Seating begins 30 minutes before curtain time.
Box office hours vary by semester. Hours of operation are also on the box office voice mail system. All Volusia County students can get a complimentary ticket, including DBC, Embry-Riddle, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, as well as high school, middle school and elementary students. School ID is required. Students can come the night of the event and available tickets will be free of charge.
WOMEN'S CENTER
FRESH START - New edition of the Displaced Homemakers Program begins this month, sponsored by DBC's Women's Center, this four-week program is designed to assist individuals to make a successful transition from homemaker to workplace. Monday - Friday. Free. Programs also at the DBCC Deltona Campus, Bldg. 1, Rm. 226, 2351 Providence Blvd., Deltona and at DBC Flagler/Palm Coast Campus, Bldg. 1, Rm. 118, 3000 Palm Coast Parkway SE, Palm Coast.
