OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS - "Opportunity Day" at the ATC, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sept. 20. Area employers will be on hand to talk about career opportunities within their organizations. FALCON SNACK SHOP - Now with two campus locations, the new snack bar can be found in the Allied Health Bldg. 550. Serving breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m., with baked goods, fresh fruit, Starbuck's coffee and more on the menu. From 9:50-12:30 p.m., soups, salads, hot sandwiches, pizzas and smoothies are available for purchase. The snack shop also is seeking student and staff input over menu items offered.CAFÉ 101 - Cafe 101 is part of the International Hospitality Institute's Culinary Division, under the direction of Associate Professor and Assistant Chair Chef Jeff Conklin and Associate Professor Chef Clarence Pan. The teaching cafe and kitchen is currently closed as it makes preparations to move into its new facility in the Mori Hosseini Center. Gratuities help fund the culinary management scholarships. HOT, HOT, HOT - Sept. 20-22, 26-28, 7:30 p.m. "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." In honor of DBCC's 50th anniversary, Director David Peshek brings us this Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the 1950s. Brick and Maggie live in a world of lies and deceit until Big Daddy's birthday party forces them to confront the illusions they have about their lives and themselves. This Tennessee Williams' play is a landmark of 20th century American theater. Admission $5. Daytona Beach Campus, Theater Center (Bldg. 220). 506-3042.
TICKET INFORMATION - Box office in the Theater Center, Bldg. 220. Open one hour before showtime and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays or call 506-3042 for an appointment.. Seating begins 30 minutes before curtain time. Box office hours vary by semester. Hours of operation are also on the box office voice mail system. All Volusia County students can get a complimentary ticket, including DBCC, Embry-Riddle, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, as well as high school, middle school and elementary students. School ID is required. Students can come the night of the event and if there are tickets available they will get one free of charge.

Displaced Homemakers Program, sponsored by DBCC's Women's Center, this four-week program is designed to assist individuals to make a successful transition from homemaker to workplace. SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION - SI (see this month's story in Features) provides academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses. It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content. This program targets high-risk courses rather than high-risk students. High-risk courses are traditionally difficult due to their content. Courses targeted for this program: MAC 1105 College Algebra, BSC 1085 Hum Ant & Phys I, MCB 1010 Microbiology, CHM 1025 Intro to Chemistry, BSC 1005 Survey Biology.
