START Walking runs through March
A kickoff for the START Walking Challenge at the end of February brought together DBCC students and staff , as well as those from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Bethune-Cookman University.The idea was to focus attention on physical fitness, as participants walked from ERAU to Bethune-Cookman, then retraced their footsteps back. The event began at noon so that people could walk during their lunch breaks.
Step Up Florida is a statewide campaign to promote the increase of physical activity. Volusia County Health Department is promoting activities in the K-12 schools, senior centers and elsewhere throughout the week of Feb. 19.
Those who could not make the Feb. 20 walk, were encouraged to join the START Walking Campaign by participating in the American Heart Association START Walking Challenge. A map with walking trails and challenges on the Daytona Campus and a free T-shirt was given to the first 75 employees who registered at the Fitness Center.
DBCC to host Jobs Expo 2007
The Career Services Department at DBCC will hold its annual Jobs Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.Students, along with the public, will have the opportunity to meet with prospective employers in fields such as: Health, Human & Public Service; Business and Technology; Computer Engineering and Technology; Industrial Technologies. Information about workforce programs will also be provided by the One Stop Career Centers.
The Jobs Expo will be in the Lemerand Center, Bldg. 310, on the DBCC Daytona Beach Campus. It is free and open to job applicants. Employers who would like to participate in this recruitment event should make their space reservations by Monday, March 26, by calling (386) 506-3687. An Employer registration fee of $85 applies.
Prior year participants included area employers such as: County of Volusia; Cities of Daytona Beach, Holly Hill and Ormond Beach; Volusia County Schools; Halifax Hospital Medical Center; Loomis Fargo; International Speedway Corp.; City of Daytona Beach Fire Department; Florida Highway Patrol; American General Insurance; DBCC; Kelly Temporary Services; Spherion; Med-Expert's; CPA firms; Coronado Paint Company; Raydon; SHANDS- Jacksonville; Daytona Beach Police Department; UPS; Direct Mail; Bealls Department Store; Cracker Barrel; T.J. Maxx; BCI Engineering; Compu-Sys; Florida Hospital-Memorial Divisions; High-Tech Associates, and U. S. Armed Force.
Center to toast Women's History Month
The Women's Center at DBCC and its Advisory Board will host a benefit luncheon recognizing National Women's History Month from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. March 30. The luncheon will be held in Bldg. 100, Rm. 112 on the Daytona Beach Campus.Guest speakers at the luncheon will include Judge Dawn Fields, County Court Judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit and Lindsay Roberts, Executive Director of Volusia, Flagler County Coalition for the Homeless. In addition, former students of the Women's Center who are now employed in the workplace in professional careers and entrepreneurship are expected to attend.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Women's Center Scholarship Fund.
Online transcripts now available
Effective immediately the Records Office at DBCC will offer a new online official transcript request process. Students must now order official college transcripts through their FalconNet online student services login.There is a $2 charge per transcript that can be paid online by credit card or in person at any DBCC campus. Students can to access this new process 24/7 and the benefits will be: order transcripts anywhere at anytime; check the status of a request; and choose from a variety of ways that the transcript can be sent- electronically, overnight delivery, regular mail or pick up.
Questions, can be anwered by the Records Office at (386) 506-3478. Unofficial transcripts are still available online at no charge, but faxed requests are no longer accepted.
'Chorus Line' takes bow
DBCC's Cultural Arts Department presents "A Chorus Line," a dramatic musical about a chorus audition for a Broadway show, starting March 7 and running March 8-10 and 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Theater Center on the Daytona Beach Campus."A Chorus Line" tells the poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration.
DBCC Cultural Arts faculty Robert Arcuri directs and Norton Christeson oversees the music, with Kevin Veiga choreograpging. It stars a combination of 18 students and community performers.
"A Chorus Line" had its first Broadway performance in 1975 at the Shubert Theater where it stayed for 15 years. It was conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, based on the book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante. Music is by Marvin Hamlisch, with lyrics by Edward Kleban.
Tickets are $5, except for the 1 p.m. March 7 matinee, which is free. Tickets may be purchased at the DBCC box office in the Theater Center, Bldg. 220. The box office is open 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays and one hour prior to each performance. Everyone with a valid DBCC I.D. may pick up one free ticket at the Box Office.
Ticket proceeds are used to support the Performing Arts Scholarship program. Seating begins one half-hour prior to curtain time on a first-come basis. Patrons should arrive no less than 15 minutes prior to curtain time for adequate seating. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Call (386)506-3042.
