EXHIBITS

SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY - The SMP Fall Season continues with "Lightness of Being" running through Dec. 10, featuring " The Dance Photography of Lois Greenfield." Collaborating with some of the world's finest dancers from such illustrious dance companies as the Martha Graham Dance Company, Merce Cunningham, the Sydney Dance Company, Paul Taylor, Pilobolus, San Francisco Ballet, the Parsons Dance Company, and Ballet Tech, Lois Greenfield captures moments of startling grace and power. Her gravity-defying bodyscapes marked a new direction in dance photography. Lois Greenfield's revolutionary photographs capture the explosive energy and beauty of dancers' bodies in motion.

• Nov. 4, 1-2:30 p.m. - "Jump - Lightness of Being" Part of the free Saturday programs. Come and enjoy these free parent-child hands-on activities for children aged 7 to 11. Museum education staff will lead fun activities with photography and explore new ways of seeing and creating. Come to the museum's 2nd floor KIDSPACE. Explore your own "Lightness of Being" and create a unique photographic magnet. Reservations are taken on a space-available basis and are required no later than one week prior. • Nov. 8 & 29, 5-6:15 p.m. Free Wednesday Programs. No need for cameras! On Wednesdays enjoy a presentation and tour with museum staff that will bring our current photography exhibitions alive. Plan to be amazed, stimulated and intrigued as you expand your understanding and appreciation of photography. Stay longer if you would like to visit KIDSPACE-the children's activity area in the museum - in the midst of our 2nd floor exhibition space. Open during regular museum hours. Younger children will enjoy learning more about photography with videos, books and Web links. Reservations are taken on a space available basis and are required no later than one week prior.

• Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. SMP Lecture Series: "On the Beach," with Douglas McCulloh and Jacques Garnier.
Bldg. 150, Rm. 101, Daytona Campus. Preceding the lecture at 6 p.m. will be an open house and preview reception.
The real-life characters photographed for this exhibition reveal the rich diversity and color of the beach as a social and cultural pageant. Florida's beaches are a magnet, not only for the local population, but also for millions who visit Florida each year. This exhibition of over-scale color portraits features images made over the last two years on Florida's beaches, combined with a companion series made on California beaches. The display runs through Jan. 21.

The Southeast Museum of Photography is in Building 100 at the Daytona campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Admission is free. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and from 1 to 5 p.m. weekends. Closed major holidays. All events are in the SMP, unless otherwise noted.

INTERNATIONAL MOVIE FEST - Nov. 15, 4-6 p.m. "Life is Beautiful." Presented by the Department of Modern and English Language Studies and Global Friends at DBCC. The Oscar-winning tale of a clever Jewish-Italian waiter sent to a Nazi concentration camp during World War II, along with his wife and young son. Bldg. 1110, Room 112

GOOD EATS

FALCON SNACK SHOP - Now with two new campus locations, snack bars can be found in the Building 500, adjacent to the Academic Support Center and in the Allied Health Building 550. Serving breakfast Mon.-Fri., 7:30-9 a.m., with baked goods, fresh fruit, Starbucks coffee and more on the menu. From 9:50-1 p.m., soups, salads, hot sandwiches, pizzas and smoothies are available for purchase. The snack shop also is seeking student and staff input over menu items offered. The snack shop in Bld. 500 now has extended evening hours 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm.

CAFÉ 101 - It's part of the International Hospitality Institute's Culinary Division, under the direction of Associate Professor and Assistant Chair Chef Jeff Conklin and Associate Professor Chef Clarence Pan. The teaching cafe and kitchen will offer one lunch seating Monday-Thursday, at noon. Cost is $9, which includes tax, appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage. Vegetarian meals are available by request. Gratuities help fund the culinary management scholarships. Cash only. Café 101 is open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. PERFORMING & FINE ARTS

JUDAS' LAST DAYS - (See this month's A&E story) Nov. 2-4, 7:30 p.m. "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" by Stephen Adly Guirgis, directed by David Peshek brings to the stage a compelling and complex look at the conflict between divine love and the existence of free will. In a courtroom in Purgatory, Judas Iscariot stands trial for committing the world's most infamous betrayal. Both saints and sinners appear as a feisty defense attorney desperately tries to spare her client the sentence of eternal damnation. A moving and soul searching look at faith, guilt, the power of the spirit, mercy, and redemption. Adult themes and language. Admission $5. Goddard Center.

CALLING ALL HOOFERS - Auditions for the DBCC production of "A Chorus Line" are scheduled at 4 p.m. Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 at 7 p.m., in the J. M. Goddard Center, Building. 230, Rooms 121 and 123 on the Daytona Beach Campus. Audition packets are now available for pick-up in Building 230, Rooms 117 and 118. You- must have a packet to audition. CONCERT SERIES - The City of Palm Coast Recreation & Parks Department in partnership with DBCC'S Flagler/Palm Coast Campus, invites the community to join them for a monthly concert at the DBCC Amphitheater, Palm Coast Parkway and Colbert Lane. Concerts are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and admission is free. The next performance is Nov. 3, 7 p.m. with the Stetson University Jazz Band and a "Tribute to Veterans." ORIGINAL MUSIC FEST - DeLand Original Music Festival returns Nov. 4, with snother edition of the Songwriters Showcases of American 2006 Music Awards. From 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. that Saturday throughout Downtown DeLand.
Over 90 independent acts scheduled during this 12-hour event consisting of rock, folk, blues, Americana, jazz, punk, hip-hop, folk and country music, held on 18 stages held throughout DeLand. MIDNIGHT RIDE - At 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Nov. 6, Very Special Arts of Volusia County presents "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." Join Paul Revere on his landmark midnight ride to warn Americans of the British Redcoates' arrival in Boston - a humorous and inspirational musical about this true history of the Revolutionary War (grades 3-7). PERFORMANCE ART - (See this month's A&E story.) 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9, the Theater Center will showcase a performance that is a combination of the magic of dance, the diverse sounds of properties of painting. Join art student Kayloyan Ivanov and DBCC faculty member Kevin Veiga as they bring various art forms together culminating in a live performance. Admission $5.

MORE DANCE - Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m. in the Theater Center. The DBCC Dance Ensemble and special guests from local professionals, colleges and high schools will feature diverse forms of dance works choreographed by DBCC faculty, guest artists and students. Admission $5.

STUDENT RECITAL - Nov. 14, 2 p.m. Goddard Center. Vocal and instrumental music programs feature talented student musicians in performances of solo and chamber music works. Admission $5.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR - In celebration of International Education Week, DBCCwill recognize the importance of globalization by hosting the International Photography EXPO 2006. The one-day exhibition is Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Building 110, Room 102 on the Daytona Campus. The event will showcase a collection of photos taken by international students of their native countries. Interact with participating students as they share stories of their lives in other parts of the world.

ALL THAT JAZZ - Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. in the Theater Center. An evening of big band and combo jazz featuring the DBCC Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Peter Waidelich. The program will explore modern jazz and improvisation. Admission $5.

HOLIDAY CONCERT - Nov. 30 & Dec. 1, 7:30 p.m. in the Theater Center. Annual "Our Gift to the Community" will be presented by the DBCC Community Symphonic Band, and Concert Choir. A fun-filled family evening of holiday music, sing-a-longs and a visit from Santa. Join us for our traditional holiday program that has become a tradition for our community. Free

MEDIEVAL YULETIDE FEASTE - A new title, music, script and set, but the traditional dinner prayer and merriment will prevail. Dec. 4-6, 6:30 p.m. in the Goddard. A Yuletide celebration filled with merriment, good cheer and sumptuous food. Join our Lords and Ladies of the Royal Court, our bass choir and early music ensemble and other talented entertainers in a Christmas journey back in time. Get your tickets early! $32.

OPPORTUNITIES

SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION - SI provides academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses. It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content. This program targets high-risk courses rather than high-risk students. Courses targeted for this program: MAC 1105 College Algebra, BSC 1085 Hum Ant & Phys I, MCB 1010 Microbiology, CHM 1025 Intro to Chemistry, BSC 1005 Survey Biology. Contact Mrs. Gilbert at 506-3356.
