"Writing for the school newspaper is a wonderful opportunity, it is great to put on your resume and is a very useful learning experience for anybody interested in journalism," she adds.
Getting more people interested in the paper as readers and contributors will be a major emphasis for the new editor and a major effort will be made by Verschure to accomplish this task.
In 2005 Verschure enrolled at DBCC in the AS Degree program with a major in Photographic Technology, after successfully completing her first year at Tilburg University in Holland. She is fluent in three languages and has a DBCC GPA of 4.0.
"I was privileged to have Jasmijn in my Mass Media and Popular Culture class during her first semester at DBCC last fall," says In Motion co-adviser Elena Jarvis. "It was clear from the beginning that she is an exceptional student. But beyond that, she is as compassionate and committed as she is intelligent. I am delighted that she is returning to the college and anticipate a very exciting and innovative year for the newspaper."
A number of editor positions are still available for the fall semester. Interested parties should bring resumes, samples and their ideas to the In Motion meeting, which are held at 4 p.m. Wednesdays in room 119, Building 130. Or call 506-3268 for information.
