War on drugs keeps students out of college
Dear Editor, Thousands of would-be students won't be joining their peers on college campuses across the country this semester because they were convicted of drug offenses and automatically lost their financial aid under a little-known federal law. Students for Sensible Drug Policy or SSDP, a group with chapters on more than 70 campuses across the country, has been working to overturn the penalty since it was enacted and recently filed a class action lawsuit to challenge its constitutionality.

"My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas." Some of us remember reciting this to ourselves in school to help us memorize the heavenly bodies belonging to our Milky Way. But times have changed and Pluto is no longer part of the club. Recently, 424 astronomers, a mere 5 percent of the world's star gazers, met in the Czech Republic to decide the boundaries of our solar system after the recent discovery of 2004 UB 313, also known as Xena.

The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 had perhaps the most devastating impact on our nation in its history. No other event - not the Oklahoma City bombing, not Pearl Harbor, not the Civil War, not the Kennedy assassination - damaged the American psyche as much as the vicious attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93.
